Title: Internship Programme for Young Veterinarians

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is pleased to announce an Internship Programme for young veterinarians.

FAO is implementing a project under the European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD IV, a programme funded by the European Union, SWEDEN, CzDA and FAO.

Within the project, FAO will support the Food Safety and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Sector in Georgia.

FAO Georgia is seeking candidates with bachelor`s degree in veterinary science, to work in Samtskhe-Javakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida Kartli and Kvemo Kartli regions, providing technical support to FAO in the capacity building of Primary Producers (PP) and Food Business Operators (FBO).

The Internship programme intends to develop stronger technical and managerial skills for the interns while providing hands-on experience in the field. The interns will benefit from theoretical and practical training by experts in different value chain, such as: meat, poultry, vegetable, aquaculture and dairy production. The programme duration is 6 months. During this time period, interns will be given the opportunity to be involved in the field activities with primary producers related to dairy and to actively work with the Food Business Operators in different processing plants.

During the programme, the selected candidates:

** Will complete specific trainings on Food Safety;
** Will gain practical working experience from FAO staff in the field and in the different processing plants from different industries;
** Will be mentored by an FAO staff that will supervise their performance during the internship program and will provide advice for career development;
** Involved in preparation of trainings materials and guidelines in scope of food processing industry;
** Ensure the implementation of awareness raising for FBO (Food Business Operator) and primary producers in terms of food borne diseases, animal welfare, improvement food processing lines to achieve general food safety requirement. Assist to FBO and primary producers in checking and improving safety and quality control procedures in food processing chain, from the raw material stage through to the finished product;
** Veterinarians will give the training to primary producers in how to reduce zoonosis; focus on zoonosis that have an influence on food safety;
** Advice to primary producers in biosecurity measures to prevent the entrance of diseases in the farms;
** Improve the knowledge of primary producers related to the use of veterinarian medicine products in order to increase the awareness in terms of residues in food to prevent the appearances of antimicrobial resistances;
** Training primary producers on animal feed and programs of vaccination and deworming to reduce the cases of zoonosis, food born diseases and chemical contaminates in food;
** Spread knowledge between FBOs about Good Hygienic Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices in different food business sectors;
** Improve the knowledge of small FBO about the establishment of a Prerequisite Program and guidelines to improve if already established;

What the interns will be responsible for:

** Interns will work in the field and in processing plants together with FAO staff in different regions;
** Contribute to manage field trainings to beneficiaries;
** Interns will be in permanent communication with FBOs and PPs, assist them in the improvement of their food processing line; based on need assessment organize trainings and support FBOs and PPs sharing gained experience and practices;
** Monitoring and evaluation of PRP (prerequisite programs), GMP and GHP documents with selected FBOs and PPs;
** Interns will support data-entry in Zoho (a Monitoring system) -registering training sessions, dairy farmers, and households, entering any other data of activities carried out during the internship;
** Interns will work five days a week;

Candidates will be assessed against the following requirements:

** Bachelor`s degree in Veterinary or Food Technology from a bona fide (i.e. listed in the IAU/UNESCO database) educational institution
** Candidates must have completed all classes and exams from the university prior to the start of the internship to ensure full participation in the internship program
** Working knowledge of English (an English Evaluation will be made during the interview)
** Nationals of Georgia
** Candidates should be aged between 21 and 30
** Candidates with family members (defined as brother, sister, mother or father) employed by FAO under any type of contractual arrangement are not eligible for the Internship Programme.
